This course aims students to equip to listen to, understand and discuss music as a cultural and aesthetic form of human creativity. In this course students will learn to identify the basic elements of music, instruments, voice, genres, and styles, as well as the terminology used to discuss the pieces of music. The course requires extensive listening to music in and out of class, class discussion and short papers on various composers and compositions. The course also includes attendance at classical music concerts and a research paper in the form of a critical essay.
